Copa NOVA – Rules and Regulations
In general, Copa NOVA Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Championships closely follow the rules governed by the IBJJF. There may be subtle differences between the two, so please refer to the rules section of the Pre-Registration Kit for an accurate description of Copa NOVA’s rules and regulations.
*SAFETY IS OUR NUMBER ONE PRIORITY – Please respect our referees as well as the calls they make. Referees have the final decision in any match. There are no exceptions to this rule.
Prior to competition, we will hold a mandatory competitor/referee meeting to make sure any and all questions are answered. To facilitate this process, please download and study the rules & regulations within the Pre-Registration kit. Feel free to contact your instructor, coach, or teammate if any rule is unclear. Bring up any unanswered questions at the competitors/referees meeting.
Click on the above graphic for a detailed view of the Rules & Regulations governed by the Copa NOVA Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Championships. In addition to the Rules & Regulations, the Pre-Registration Kit includes all of the information necessary to successfully register for the event.

How do you tell were you compete it you do not go to a gi school and you are competing in no gi?Ii doun’t see it in the rules book.
The pre-registration kit has been updated. You can go to http://copanovabjj.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/03/preregistration.pdf and download the updated one. To answer your question:
“Beginner is one year or less (White belt). Intermediate is 1 to 3 years (Blue Belt) and Advanced is 3 or more years (Purple and up). All Blue belts must compete in Intermediate or higher. All Purple Belts must compete in Advanced. A grappler may enter a No-Gi division higher than their belt ranking (for example a Blue belt entering the Advanced division) however they must then stay in Advanced No-Gi divisions. They may not also enter Intermediate No-Gi divisions. ”
